This past July 2024, our club had the pleasure of partnering with Variety – the Children’s Charity of Alberta to sponsor and build a remote-controlled car for a child who had a physical handicap.  Centennial  Rotary has had the pleasure to be part of the magic for two other car builds over the past few years.  Each car build is unique and special for all involved.  This event gets club members together to demonstrate their mechanical skills and teamwork needed to put a customized car together.  This year we had five club members, three junior mechanics and our new district governor and family in attendance.  Team Rotary worked on their masterpiece for 90 minutes to reach success.   The Big Give Away, which is where the magic happens, was especially warming for rookie mechanic Al Muller, who was able to witness the look in the eyes of our  child as he received his  car.  It is like watching the first steps of a toddler when they are learning to walk and realize they now have the freedom to move without any help.

It should be mentioned that it is not just the kids that have fun with these cars, the parents also get to share in the fun by being able to use the car’s Xbox controller to control the car.
