50Rocky Mountain HouseRotary Wheelchair VanWest Country Family Service Association

Rotary plays two roles. One as a capital funder participated in initial purchase of van ($10,000) and has established a capital reserve of $5,000 annually to be prepared to replace the vechicle when the time arrives. Funds are generated by soliciting a MAJOR sponsor of $5,000 in conjunction with our Lobsterfest. In return the business gets their logo(s) on the van for one year.

The second role Rotary serves is as "community watchdog" to ensure the service remains viable, accessible (including financially) to residents of the community by serving on an advisory committee to the operator. Having Rotary's stability and reputation added to the project it is hoped that we will never fade out...

The van is a Dodge Grande Caravan, with a ramp conversion by VMI capable of transporting 3 wheelchair clients and their 3 caregivers. The service is Administered by a local Not for Profit which also provides other services to seniors and the disables in the community. The economy of this model of transportation is worth a look by other communities, especially smaller rural communties. The operation of the van has been met through very reasonable client fees.
