Calgary's Cooking

To date, we have sold enough cook books and had donations to cover our expenses and the printing.

A sales effort will take place in November 2002:

The Cook Book is a joint project between Rotary Centennial and the Community Kitchen Program (CKP), a Calgary charity that operates over 40 community kitchens around Calgary to help lower income families to plan and serve nutritious low cost meals. It also helps to provide meals to school children, and supports the Inter-Faith Food Bank and other agencies by distributing perishable food donations when available.

CKP also have a mobile kitchen that Centennial (helped to develop) that assists in providing meals in times when police or citizens are mobilized (e.g. World Petroleum Congress, G-8 Summit, 4th Street Lilac Festival). The proceeds from the Cook Book go to support the goals of both groups.

The Cook Book features over 120 tried and true recipes from the Community Kitchen Program and unique recipes from eight of Calgary's finest restaurants. The Cook Book will also be featured in the Calgary Herald and in the May Calgary Co-op Newsletter to members and will be available in their stores starting about May 4, 2002. We expect the featured restaurants will also offer the cook books for sale in their restaurants.

If Rotarians would like to have bulk purchases with specific information on their company to give to clients (or their club), a separate printing can be arranged and their information placed on the inside front cover, but the purchase price would need to provided before the print run. We will accept cash and cheques, but do not have the ability to accept VISA or MasterCard. Unfortunately we do not offer discounts for bulk purchase as this is a fundraising initiative.
